Music Production
Music production is the process in which a musical idea turns into a complete song.
Sometimes you arrive with a song that's already written and composed, and sometimes there's only an idea, a text, a melody, an initial recording, or a general direction. The role of production is to understand what's there, identify the direction that fits the song, and build a complete work from it - in terms of arrangement, instruments, sound and production.
I accompany the process from the idea and the demo all the way to the final mix and master.
Starting from what already exists
You don't need to arrive with a finished song to start a production.
You can start from a text, a melody, chords, a phone recording, a basic demo, or even an idea that's still hard to put into words.
At the first stage I listen to the material and try to understand its musical direction and what you're trying to achieve. From there, we can decide what needs to be developed, what's worth keeping, and what's missing to turn the idea into a complete song.
When the song is already written and composed, the work can focus mainly on arrangement and production. When it's not yet fully formed, we can also work on developing the idea itself, including writing, composing a melody, or building the song's structure as needed.
Building the arrangement
One of the central stages in production is deciding how the song will sound.
Which instruments will be in it? What role will each instrument play? Where does the song need to open up and expand? Where is it right to leave space for the voice? How do you build the transition between the verses, the chorus and the different sections?
Arrangement isn't just a choice of instruments. It largely determines how the song develops and how the listener experiences it over time.
I work on the structure and arrangement according to the character of the song and the direction you want to take it, not according to a fixed template that fits every production.
Choosing instruments and sound
Once the direction is understood, the instruments and the sound character that fit it are chosen.
You can work with live instruments, virtual instruments, synthesizers, samples, guitars, drums, keys and other instruments, according to the production's needs.
Here too, the choice isn't just a matter of taste. Every instrument has a role within the production, and it needs to integrate with the rest of the elements rather than compete with them.
Sometimes adding another instrument isn't the solution, and sometimes a particular instrument is exactly what's missing to make a part work. These decisions are made based on what the song needs.
From demo to full production
Once the direction is clear, we start actually building the production.
The initial demo gradually becomes a full production: instruments are added and processed, musicians are recorded as needed, work is done on the vocals, transitions and different sections are built, and the song's sound is developed.
During the work, I listen both to the small details and to the overall picture. It matters to me that every part works on its own, but also that all the parts work together and that the song feels like one cohesive piece.
Working in stages
I prefer to divide the production process into clear stages.
Instead of trying to solve everything at once, first the direction is defined, then the arrangement is built, then the sound is developed and the necessary recordings are made, and only then do we get to the final stages of mixing and mastering.
This division allows decisions to be made in an organized way, and lets us know at every stage what's already been completed and what still needs work.
It also makes it possible to change direction when needed. Sometimes during production you discover that a certain idea isn't working as well as it seemed at the start. In that case, it's possible to stop, re-examine, and make the change before moving forward.
Accompanying the whole process
I work with the client throughout the entire process, not just at the starting point and the end.
It matters to me to understand what they want the song to be and what they want to feel when they hear the result. At the same time, I bring my experience to the process and offer solutions when there are several possible ways forward.
The goal is to reach a result the client connects with and loves, but to get there through a professional, organized work process.
I don't try to force every song into a particular template. Every project has its own character, and the production needs to serve it.
Recordings and production in the same process
When additional recordings are needed, they can be done as part of the production - vocals, voices, guitars, keys, drums or other instruments.
The advantage of working this way is that the recording already happens with an understanding of the production. You can know what's missing, what role the instrument needs to fill, and what sound fits what already exists.
This way, the recording doesn't stand on its own, but integrates directly into the building of the song.
From production to mix and master
Once production and recordings are complete, the song moves to the mixing stage.
In mixing, all the elements of the production are joined together and get their final balance and treatment. After that, mastering can be done and the song prepared for distribution and playback.
This way, the song can be accompanied the whole way - from the initial idea, through writing and arrangement, recordings and production, to the final file.
Experience that lets you see the whole picture
I come to production with years of experience working with music and sound - from writing, composing and production to recording, mixing and studio work.
This experience lets me look at a song from several angles at once: the musical side, the production side, and the technical side.
When I receive an idea, I first try to understand it. Then I build, together with the client, the path to turn it into something defined that can be worked on, and from there we continue step by step to the final result.
Do you have a song, a text, a melody, or an idea you want to turn into a full production? Send me what you have, even if it's not finished yet. We can start from what exists and figure out together what's needed to take the idea to the next stage.
